Home Oxygen Systems from Respiratory Therapy Specialists Inc.
Respiratory Therapy Specialists Inc. provides oxygen at home to those who require periodic or continuous supplemental oxygen therapy. There are a range of systems used for the delivery of oxygen. Each system has its own advantages depending on the requirements of the patient.

Oxygen Concentrators
Oxygen Concentrators Oxygen concentrators are electrical devices which through special internal processes provide oxygen without requiring refilling.

These concentrators have internal compressors which compress the air from the room into the machine.

The air that we normally breathe is comprised of approximately 78% Nitrogen and 21% Oxygen.

The compressed air with the above combination then passes through sieve beds (filters) which filter out the nitrogen.

The end result is oxygen which is controlled by a flow meter on the front of the concentrator.

Because oxygen concentrators are electrical units, they are usually accompanied by a back-up oxygen cylinder in the case of power outages.

Liquid Oxygen Systems
Liquid Oxygen Systems To understand how liquid oxygen provides gaseous oxygen, a simple analogy will help.

We all know that water is a liquid at room temperature. When we increase the temperature of water, (by boiling it) it then turns into a gas which is evident by the steam.

Oxygen is a gas at room temperature. By making oxygen cold enough (-183°C) it changes to a liquid.

Our liquid oxygen tanks store the liquid at this temperature until oxygen gas is required. When turned on, the liquid oxygen flows up through internal coils and continues to warm up until it changes to a gas.

The advantage to this type of system is that just 1 liter of liquid oxygen provides 860 liters of oxygen gas.

Therefore with just one tank, the supply of oxygen can last from days to weeks depending on usage. Liquid oxygen systems come with their own portable tank which can be filled easily by the patient and carried conveniently with the provided shoulder strap.

Compressed Oxygen Cylinders
Compressed Oxygen Cylinders Respiratory Therapy Specialists Inc. provides oxygen by way of compressed cylinders.

These cylinders, when used in conjunction with a regulator, can provide oxygen at a wide range of flow settings.

Because these cylinders do not require a power source, they can be used in the event of power outages as well as for ambulating outside the home.

When used with special devices called Oxygen Conserving Devices, these cylinders can last for exceptionally long periods of time.

Compressed Oxygen Cylinders
Oxygen Conserving DevicesOur company realizes the importance of our patients being able to receive oxygen therapy not only at home, but also recognizes and addresses the need for our patients continuing their lives outside their homes.

With these special devices and a handy carrying case, patients can travel and ambulate for hours at a time with just one small cylinder.

These devices work with a regulator on a cylinder, very similar to a back-up system. The difference being these conserving devices do just that.

The patient receives oxygen flow from the tank, only when they breathe in. Special electronic sensors detect the negative pressure produced by inspiration, and allow the regulator to release a "puff" of oxygen.

Though the "puff" only lasts for a couple of seconds, the flow produced is enough to provide the patient with as much oxygen as they would receive with continuous flow.

With these devices, we are able to use smaller, lighter cylinders, and the system in total weighs only a few pounds.
